Senate elections: Government decides to bring constitutional amendment to end horse trading

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has decided to bring a constitutional amendment to end horse trading in the Senate elections.

Talking to media along with Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood, Azam Swati said that he wanted to hold the next Senate elections through show of hands. Recommendations have been made in the cabinet to make the election process transparent.

He said that all possible steps are being taken for transparent elections. Penalties have been proposed for those who interfere in the electoral process. The government is working on a reform agenda. The legal bills we have introduced are pending in the Senate.

On this occasion, Shafqat Mahmood said that the purpose of all things is to make the election transparent. The Senate wants to bring elections and reforms by consensus.

He said that the Senate was bringing constitutional amendments to end horse trading in the elections. Under the proposed recommendations, any candidate will be able to object to the staff of the Election Commission.

Shafqat Mahmood said that under the new recommendations, it would be necessary to finalize the constituencies four months before the elections.
